On Thursday, August 16th @ 8:15 AM, DJ Jesse Luscious hosts Jeremy Lyon of Oakland based psych rock band, King Dream, and San Francisco singer-songwriter, Kendra McKinley, for an in-studio interview and two separate live acoustic performances.
King Dream is the new project from Bay Area songwriter and musician Jeremy Lyon. Inspired by Jim James, Blake Mills, and Jonathon Wilson, Lyon spent 5 years touring the country with Tumbleweed Wanderers, a band he co-founded in 2011, releasing a couple albums and a few EPs along the way. Since disbanding in 2016, he’s worked as a sideman in a slew of regional indie rock, psych/folk, and alt/pop acts including Whiskerman, M Lockwood Porter, and Lapel, while working on his debut self-titled album, due out summer of 2018.
Kendra McKinley perceives a song like a painter views a blank canvas: an opportunity to expand an audience’s mind, to wash their thoughts in brilliant hues of blue and violet, scarlet reds and effusive orange. Inspired by the past but not chained to it, McKinley’s music spans the diverse spectrum of pop music. She echoes the intricate vocal arrangements crafted by Brian Wilson, fractures the narrow definitions of a genre like St. Vincent, and recognizes storytelling as the key aspect of a great tune the way the best singer-songwriters have for generations
King Dream & Kendra McKinley perform at The Independent in San Francisco on Friday, August 24th. Show starts at 9PM.
