Kinetics Interview

Posted on July 11, 2019

The Kinetics

Join DJ Roscoe 2000 on Friday, July 12th @ 3PM when he hosts former SF soul/funk/pop supergroup, The Kinetics, for a live in-studio interview ahead of their 20 year reunion show at The Ivy Room in Albany later that night.

In 1995, just after the breakup of their Mod-Blues juggernaut The Loved Ones, singer Bart Davenport and guitarist Xan McCurdy formed The Kinetics. Bassist Jon Erickson, keyboardist Marc Capelle, drummers Ben Wayne and later Michael Urbano rounded out what was to become a true pop “supergroup”.

Combining funky soul grooves with melodic songwriting the group’s sound stood precariously between the acid jazz and Brit pop movements, but it was the subtle elements of bossa nova and studio musician precision that conveyed a West Coast easy listening feel that set them apart from their peers.
