On Thursday, July 11th @ 1PM, DJ Penny Royal host a special live acoustic performance and interview with influential SF noise/punk rock band, Flipper, with guest Last Will.
Flipper was founded in 1979 by Ted Falconi, Will Shatter, Steve DePace, and Ricky Williams. All were from early San Francisco punk bands, Rad Command, Negative Trend, and Sleepers, respectively.
A new version of Flipper came together earlier this year with the additions of Rachel Thoele on bass and David Yow of the Jesus Lizard on vocals. The band has already recorded material for two new releases — one a collaboration with the Melvins and the other a single with the label Joyful Noise. There could be more on the way, as DePace has been working on a publishing deal in the hopes of re-issuing their catalog as well as releasing “Kali,” an album of material left over from the “Gone Fishin’” sessions in 1985.
The band is currently celebrating their 40th anniversary and is performing locally at The Ritz in San Jose on Thursday, July 11th and at The Great American Music Hall on Saturday, July 13th.
