Ute Lemper’s career is vast and varied. She has made her mark on the stage, in films, in concert and as a unique recording artist on more than 30 albums over 40 years of an incredible career.
She has been universally praised for her interpretations of Berlin Cabaret Songs, the works of Kurt Weill and Berthold Brecht and the Chansons of Marlene Dietrich, Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel, Léo Ferré, Jacques Prevert, Nino Rota, Astor Piazzolla many others and also her own compositions, as well as her portrayals in musicals and plays on Broadway, in Paris, Berlin and in London’s West End.
In honor of the 125th anniversary of Kurt Weill, Ute Lemper pays tribute to the composer who has shaped 40 years of her artistic journey with her latest album, Pirate Jenny. This time, she takes a bold and innovative approach, reimagining his work for a new era.
Collaborating with David Chesky, Ute has created a polyphonic, electronic, and contemporary collage—a cinematic and intense re-exploration of Weill’s iconic stories. The songs transcend time, becoming multi-dimensional adventures. Through this unexpected and unique vision, the exotic characters of Weill’s world are brought vividly back to life.
