Posted on July 13, 2019

Phantom_Surfers_july_2014_bw

Delve into the past and present of the relationship between Japanese and Bay Area bands Sunday, July 14th @ 11:30AM, as DJ Helen Earth airs a second Tokyo-themed interview with Michael Lucas of the Phantom Surfers and Aya Cuzner of Pops and the Jerks to ask about the history of the relationship between Tokyo and Bay Area rock bands and how that relationship is maintained today.

The Phantom Surfers are a, well, surf rock band who have been a staple in the Bay Area rock scene since 1988. Michael Lucas has been a crucial liazon between Tokyo and  Bay Area bands since those early days and discusses how that relationship began and blossomed.

Pops and the Jerks are a San Francisco-based power group who played Tokyo Takeover alongside the three Tokyo-based bands at the Burger Boogaloo Pre-Party. Aya Cuzner discusses the experience of hosting Tokyo bands today and what the future of this relationship and Burger Boogaloo as whole might look like.
