Posted on January 20, 2024

Tune in on Wednesday, January 24th @ 8:30pm to hear Catatonic in conversation with Jake Ewald of Slaughter Beach, Dog.

SBD is an Americana folk-rock band which began as a side project of Ewald’s while he was still playing with Modern Baseball and then was realized as a full band when Modern Baseball went on a hiatus in 2017 from which they haven’t returned.

The group just put out their fifth album, Crying, Laughing, Waving, Smiling and are currently on tour across North America. Catatonic spoke to Ewald ahead of their January 14th show at the Fillmore, and discussed the “folk art museum of Slaughter Beach, Dog,” writing songs as a form of scrapbooking, road trip music and what books he’s reading. Ewald also talks about growing up in the Methodist church and the influence that had in finding his own confidence as a self-described writer in adulthood.
