Tune in on Tuesday, November 11th at 10am for an extra special guest to the station, bassist of the legendary Cocteau Twins, This Mortal Coil collaborator, and the visionary head of Bella Union Records, Simon Raymonde.
Simon will be live in the KALX studio with DJ Massari to discuss his new memoir, In One Ear: Cocteau Twins, Ivor Raymonde and Me. He might even showcase his DJ skills—a testament to his versatility—since he currently has a fantastic show on the radio platform ROVR.
The Cocteau Twins, with their unique sound, are one of the most original and influential bands of all time. Liz Fraser‘s otherworldly voice, her glossolalia-lyrical style atop guitarist Robin Guthrie‘s groundbreaking shimmering textures, and Simon’s driving basslines: these three punk rockers created truly one-of-a-kind ethereal anthems for outcasts. We wouldn’t have the shoegaze sound of My Bloody Valentine or Slowdive without the early eighties innovations of Liz, Robin, and Simon.
After Cocteau Twins disbanded in 1997, Simon transitioned to music production and ultimately shifted his focus to running the record label Bella Union. His influence in the industry is undeniable, as he discovered and signed artists such as Beach House, Fleet Foxes, Father John Misty, and Lanterns. He also brought acclaimed artists to the label, including the Flaming Lips, Spiritualized, Patti Smith, and the Miki Berenyi Trio. His work has significantly shaped the indie and alternative music scene.
