The site of the oldest and largest Ohlone village on the shores of San Francisco Bay is also the proposed site for a five-story West Berkeley apartment and retail complex. A growing chorus of Ohlone descendants and Berkeley residents are calling instead for a two-acre memorial park to honor Ohlone history and culture. On the next Method to the Madness, Friday, February 3rd @ noon, host Lisa Kiefer will interview Oakland resident and Chochenyo Ohlone Corrina Gould, co-founder of Indian People Organizing for Change (IPOC) and the public face of Bay Area efforts to protect sacred sites, and Oakland indigenous rights advocate Chris Oakes, member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. Comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Report for the project are due by February 9.
