DJ Velvet Einstein hosts Berkeley Sounds Composer Fellows, Aiyana Braun, Peter Shin, and Ursula Kwong-Brown on Friday, April 27th @ 11:30AM to discuss their compositions for FULL: Symphony and Ballet, premiering on Sunday, April 29th @ 7PM at BAMPFA.
World premieres of small-ensemble pieces written by Aiyana Braun, Peter Shin, and Ursula Kwong-Brown are matched with work by choreographers Laura O’Malley, Keon Saghari, and Vanessa Thiessen, conducted by Ming Luke. In 2017, these three young composers were selected from a national candidate pool to participate in the inaugural Berkeley Sounds Composer Fellows program, receiving mentorship from Music Alive Composer-in-Residence Anna Clyne while developing compositions to be performed by Berkeley Symphony musicians. The goal for participating composers is to develop a composition style that is deeply personal and artistically true, yet designed to enter the standard orchestra repertory.
