Seun Kuti, son of the great Nigerian musician and Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, will be playing at the Great American Music Hall on April 12th with his father’s band, Egypt 80.
Seun is a dreamer, using music to explore speculative pan-African futures. His work extends beyond the music he creates, through his organizing with Movement of the People, a Nigerian political organization, which works to speak out against corruption and imperialism in Africa.
KALX DJ Reality Check met with Seun to discuss his music-making process and his collaborations with De La Soul and Kamasi Washington on his new album, Heavier Yet (Lays the Crownless Head). Tune in on Monday, April 7th at 5pm to hear the interview.
