The FCC and FEMA will be conducting a joint test of the national Emergency Alert System on Wed. Oct 4. At 11:18AM PDT, cell phones will begin to receive notifications from the system. At 11:20AM PDT, all radio and television stations will air a one minute test of the Emergency Broadcast System. You will not be required to take any action. This is simply a test of the network that is meant to be used in case of a national emergency.

When you think you've seen it all, the East Bay finds a way to surprise you. After a couple of dry weeks upon returning to school, I wasn't sure exactly what to expect when signing up to cover Atlas Obscura's "Through The Looking Glass" event on September 16th at Fairyland — but I was hoping for something good. Atlas Obscura is an American travel website that highlights unique destinations to visit across the United States and around the world.
