On Friday, November 21st at 6pm, Sly Ida welcomes NYC based artist, Juliet E. Gordon aka Luxury Skin, to KALX for a live in-studio interview.
Luxury Skin is the latest musical journey for Gordon, former frontwoman of Bay Area alt-pop outfit The Classical.
Her first release since 2023 debut album It’s All Over comes in the form of two singles: “Bleed for Me,” a triumphant, Bollywood string-orchestrated march into the heart of darkness, and “Counting My Money,” a sink-into-the-carpet trip hop anthem à la Massive Attack’s “Teardrops.” These songs — and those to follow — explore a beats-forward side of her Bond theme fixation, sort of like if late Scott Walker and Yeezus had a little girl. The mood is intoxicating, seductive, hot-blooded, and very much not chill.
Dramatic songwriting takes center stage and demands full attention. And do note that Luxury Skin, in partnership with longtime collaborator Arjan Miranda, is taking on production duties herself this time around. If it sounds like salvation and promises doom, which one is it?
