On Thursday, May 22nd at 2:30pm, Carnacki hosts Leila Abdul Rauf and Naut Humon to talk about their upcoming show at Gray Area on May 23rd with Maria Somerville.
Multi-instrumentalist and composer Leila Abdul-Rauf enters a world all of her own weaving brass, piano and various other textures into filmic soundscapes that echo the sounds of memories faded through time. Songs are not so much composed as captured from dreams. Time and space are distilled down to the remains of distant memories and hidden emotions, melded into a symphony of ethereal melancholy.
Naut Humon, artistic director and founder of Recombinant Media Labs, is a curator, conductor and creator of the Surround Traffic Control system: the aural optic incubator that gave birth to today’s CineChamber apparatus. He has been active in staging events that blur the roles of audience and participant for four decades. Naut Humon has collaborated with many artists and musicians of numerous influences, disciplines and styles over the years and was the figurehead of the former Industrial ambient group Rhythm & Noise.
