Kid Congo Powers Interview

Posted on October 21, 2024

3 members of band sitting together.

Tune in on Wednesday, October 23rd at 3pm to hear Donut Monoxide speak with punk rock legend Kid Congo Powers when he stops by the KALX studios ahead of Kid Congo and the Pink Monkey Birds’ show at Ivy Room in Albany later that same evening.

Kid Congo’s punk curriculum vitae is beyond comparison. As a young Queer Chicano Punk fan in the Mid 70s, he founded the Ramones West Coast fan club. At the center of the LA punk scene, Kid was in the line up of three punk bands, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, The Cramps, and The Gun Club which he co-founded with Jeffrey Lee Pierce.

Most recently, Kid Congo has been touring Europe and the US with his band the Pink Monkey Birds to celebrate the release of their new album, That Delicious Vice. In 2022, Kid Congo unveiled his fascinating biography Some New Kind of Kick…an intimate, coming-of-age memoir detailing his experiences as a young, queer Mexican-American in 1970s Los Angeles through his rise in the glam rock and punk rock scenes.

You do not want to miss this opportunity to hear what Kid Congo has been up to and what lies in store. We’ll talk about music, his book, and perhaps even spin some of Kid Congo’s favorite tunes.
