Jeffrey Lewis and his various bandmates have perfected a scuzzy, urban style of indie-folk, developing from late-90s New York City bedroom tapes into a mighty 21st Century mash-up of folksy spiel and artsy garage, like Pete Seeger meeting Sonic Youth. Jeffrey is also an illustrator, and has written/drawn 13 issues of a comic book series called Fuff.
On Friday, July 26th @ 11am, Mr. Green Genes catches up with Jeffrey ahead of his upcoming show in SF at The Chapel on Saturday, July 27th, when Lewis plays with Pacific Northwest duo, Quasi.
Jeffrey Lewis and his band tour the world, mixing folk with noise and sharing stages with the likes of Stephen Malkmus, The Mountain Goats, Daniel Johnston, and many others. Jeffrey has albums out on Rough Trade, Moshi Moshi and Don GIovanni Records, and has been featured by NPR, The History Channel, and The NY Times.
Live gigs continue to incorporate Jeffrey’s narrative folk acoustics and garage indie-pop wig-outs, as well as the occasional inclusion of Jeffrey’s multimedia full-color illustrated/sung histories and fantasies.
